Ezekiel Elliott Signs with the Patriots

Former Cowboys Running Back Joins New England

Three-Time Pro Bowler Looks to Revive Career in Foxborough

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal is worth up to $6.5 million, including incentives.

Elliott, 27, was released by the Cowboys on August 14 after six seasons in Dallas. He rushed for 1,002 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022, but his production declined from his Pro Bowl seasons in 2016, 2018, and 2019.

The Patriots have a need at running back after losing James White to free agency and Damien Harris to injury. Elliott is expected to compete with Rhamondre Stevenson and Ty Montgomery for playing time in New England's backfield.

Elliott's signing is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Patriots. He is a proven running back who can still produce at a high level, but he also comes with some baggage. He has had off-field issues in the past, including a suspension for domestic violence in 2017.

The Patriots are hoping that Elliott can put his past behind him and be a productive member of their team. He has the talent to be a star in Foxborough, but he will need to show that he is committed to being a team player and staying out of trouble.
